Natural remedies and topical applications

In addition to a good diet, several home remedies can quickly relieve pain and inflammation during attacks.

Aloe vera and honey compress:  Mix approximately 60 ml of aloe vera juice, 60 ml of honey, and 60 ml of warm water. Warm the mixture, apply it to the painful joint, cover with plastic wrap, and leave it on overnight.

Homemade chili oil:  Red chilies contain capsaicin, which provides a warming effect, blocks pain signals, and stimulates blood circulation. Grind 10 fresh red chilies and mix them with about 500 ml of vegetable oil. Let it infuse in a warm place for a week. Strain and use this oil to massage your joints (avoid if you have a fever).

Wintergreen essential oil:  For fast, targeted relief, wintergreen essential oil is indispensable. Naturally rich in methyl salicylate, it acts like a true “natural aspirin.” Dilute a few drops in a carrier oil (such as sweet almond or arnica oil) and vigorously massage the painful joint. Its warming and anti-inflammatory effect is remarkably effective against stiffness and spasms.

Apple cider vinegar and honey:  The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar has anti-inflammatory properties, while honey provides calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Mix equal parts (about 60 ml of each) and take a teaspoon of this natural syrup morning and evening.

Sea salt baths:  Taking a warm bath enriched with sea salt helps relax the muscles surrounding the joints. The minerals in the salt penetrate the skin and help reduce spasms and tension.

The expert’s secret: freeing up the “muscular cage”

A specialist in orthopedic traumatology with thirty years of experience offers a crucial insight: while osteoarthritis manifests as a drying and weakening of the hyaline cartilage, the real problem often lies elsewhere. The joint is frequently trapped in what he calls a “muscular cage.”

Tight muscles form knots, or “trigger points,” which cause radiating pain. For example, extreme tension in the gluteal muscles can spread and cause sharp knee pain. Releasing these tension points significantly reduces the pressure on the joint.

Traditional medications cannot reverse osteoarthritis, but mechanically releasing the joint from muscular tension can transform your condition. This is why movement is therapeutic. Avoiding movement for fear of pain only worsens the situation. Moderate physical activity stimulates the production of synovial fluid and strengthens supporting muscles, thus increasing mobility.

Even at over 60, it’s possible to be more flexible and suffer less than at 30. The key lies not only in weight management or fighting aging, but in maintaining the quality of your connective tissues, releasing muscle tension, and preserving a flexible spine, considered by Eastern medicine to be the true pillar of life.
